BEIJING, May 31 (Xinhuanet) -- n rebels under siege in the town of Qusair, near the Lebanese border, have pleaded for help against government troops and their Hezbollah allies.

Speaking to Reuters over an Internet link on Thursday, opposition activists said hundreds of their wounded might die if no help came soon. Amateur videos showed government forces backed by Hezbollah militants fighting pockets of resistance in the strategic town.

Rebels at Qusair and their comrades encircled near Damascus also appealed for reinforcements, saying they face shortages of weapons. The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says government forces control most of Qusair, following 12 days of fighting.
