BEIJING, May 30 (Xinhuanet) -- Afghan security forces have rescued seven foreign staff working for the international Red Cross, who were being held by insurgents. The rescue followed an hour-long gun battle at a guest house in the eastern city of Jalalabad.
An Afghan Interior Ministry spokesman says police killed one insurgent, and that one of the male aid workers suffered minor injuries. At the start of the attack, the assailants detonated a suicide vest at the gate of the building, killing an Afghan security guard.
It’s the second attack on an international organization in in five days. There’s been no immediate claim of responsibility.
