BEIJING, May 30 (Xinhuanet) -- A number of top diplomats have met with ’s opposition in Istanbul to break a deadlock within the National Coalition.

The meeting with diplomats from the US, Turkey, , Saudi Arabia and Qatar has dragged into its seventh day, four days longer than scheduled. So far, the National Coalition has failed to find common ground on key issues, including whether to take part in a peace conference proposed by the US and . There are also conflicting pressures from the backers of the revolt.

Saudi Arabia wants the coalition to expand in order to water down the influence of the powerful Muslim Brotherhood. A move that has been resisted by Qatar. The Istanbul meeting was also scheduled to choose a new Coalition president, agree on an interim government and vote in new members to join the group.
