BEIJING, May 27 (Xinhuanet) -- Torrential rains have been battering many parts of China since Saturday night. 34 local monitoring stations reported record rainfall.
At least 50 millimeters fell in nine provinces in central and south China overnight, with some areas recording as much as100 milimeters. Authorities have issued emergency warnings. Forecasters say it is rare to see such strong rains in May.
They say the rain is moving towards east, where warn that 100 to 200 milimeters could fall. Jiangxi and Guangdong provinces and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region can expect heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds.
