BEIJING, May 7 (Xinhuanet) -- A 93-year-old man has been arrested by German authorities on allegations that he served as an Auschwitz death camp guard.
Hans Lipschis was taken into custody after authorities concluded there was "compelling evidence" he was involved in crimes at Auschwitz from 1941 to 1945. Lipschis has acknowledged being assigned to an SS guard unit at Auschwitz. But he said he only served as a cook and was not involved in any war crimes.
Prosecutors say enough evidence has been found to hold him before charges on accessory to murder are brought. However formal charges against him would take another two months.
