BEIJING, May 3 (Xinhuanet) -- Construction crews have raised the final sections of a spire to the top of New York’s One World Trade Center, at the site of the September 11 attacks.
The spire’s temporary home will be a platform at the top of the trade center. Once fully installed, it will soar to a symbolic 1,776 feet, the year of America’s independence. It will become the tallest building in the western hemisphere. The 408-foot spire will be used as a world-class broadcast antenna.
The new tower is at the northwest corner of the trade center site. Including the 72-storey Four World Trade Center and other buildings, reconstruction of the area is well underway.
