BEIJING, April 29 (Xinhuanet) -- The Boeing 787 aircraft has received worldwide attention since the project was launched in 2004. The Dreamliner, as its project manger said, has changed aviation history.

The 787 is the world’s first major airliner to use composite materials as the primary material in its construction. Its name, the Dreamliner, comes from its high efficiency and environmentally friendliness.

The aircraft has been designed to be 20 percent more fuel efficient than its predecessor, the Boeing 767. New technology engines and lightweight construction have greatly reduced take-off and landing noise. Seats are also more comfortable.

The Dreamliner’s maiden flight was on December 15th, 2009. Flight testing was completed in mid-2011. The aircraft entered commercial service on October 26th, 2011, after a successful flight from Tokyo to Hong Kong.
