BEIJING, April 29 (Xinhuanet) -- Egypt’s Cairo Criminal Court has refused an appeal by former President Hosni Mubarak against extending his detention. The ruling says Mubarak must stay in prison while he is investigated for illicit gains.
Last week, illicit gains authority issued a decision to imprison the former President for 15 more days. Mubarak is charged with illegally making fortunes and his family members through abuse of power, including looting public funds and accepting luxury gifts from state-owned newspapers.
Earlier, the Court of Appeals decided to temporarily release Mubarak over the case, but the decision was appealed by the prosecution.
