BEIJING, April 27 (Xinhuanet) --Garment workers in Bangladesh have clashed with police and the military in the capital Dhaka, over poor safety conditions and the collapse of a factory building that left at least 304 people dead.
The military beat some workers to the ground who were protesting inside the wrecked Rana Plaza building. Over 2,000 people were also injured in Wednesday’s collapse. Rescuers were still pulling people alive from the rubble two days after the accident.
The factory complex had been reportedly built without the correct building permits. An official said over 3,000 people, most of them female garment workers, had been in the building despite warnings that it was structurally unsafe.
A spokesman for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said she has ordered the arrest of the owners of building and of the five factories that occupied it.
