BEIJING, April 24 (Xinhuanet) -- The two men arrested in Canada on suspicion of planning to derail a train have appeared in court.
Raed Jaser did not enter a plea during his brief court appearance in Toronto. Jaser’s lawyer said his client is "in a state of shock and disbelief". A second suspect, Chiheb Esseghaier, made his appearance at a court in Montreal, where he declined to be represented by a court-appointed lawyer. He made a brief statement in French in which he called the allegations against him unfair. He also did not enter a plea.
Both courts approved a ban on publishing evidence and testimony. The charges against the two men include conspiring to carry out an attack and murder people in association with an extremist group.
