BEIJING, April 21 (Xinhuanet) -- Lushan county has reported the highest number of deaths and the most extensive damage to houses. After the quake struck, local departments set up shelters to house thousands of local residents.
More than 2,000 have been relocated to Lushan Middle School. Its basketball courts are the largest makeshift shelters in the county. The setting up of tents continues, as more and more soldiers are joining the operation.
Students, nearby residents, seniors, as well as volunteers from outside the area, spend the first night there. Instant noodles, rice and water have been donated by individuals and charity organizations.
Earlier, in Baosheng township, temporary shelters were established at a local police department. More than a hundred residents are now living here. They have been advised to stay away from their fragile houses. Patrol teams have been established to safeguard their properties.
The township has suffered four deaths, with many more injuries reported. Among them, two were seriously injured, and are recovering now after being treated at a nearby hospital.
