BEIJING, April 18 (Xinhuanet) -- US President Barack Obama has angrily blamed politics for the failure of gun control legislation and has urged voters to send a message at the ballot box that they want stronger gun laws.

His remarks come shortly after the Senate failed to pass a compromise measure to expand background checks on people before they can buy firearms.

Obama has been trying to strengthen gun control legislation since the Sandy Hook school shooting that left 26 people dead, most of them small children, in December last year.
