BEIJING, March. 4 (Xinhuanet) -- South Korea has released the first infrared photos taken by its Naro satellite, above the Korean Peninsula.

The pictures were taken from a height of 500 kilometers on February 17th and 21st. The Naro is said to be operating normally, according to South Korea’s science department. It orbits the Earth 14 times each day, and will make both astronomical and infrared earth observations over the coming year.

The photos of the earth’s surface can be used to monitor ground temperatures, and predict potential natural disasters, such as floods and volcanos.
