BEIJING, Feb. 22 (Xinhuanet) -- The US embassy in says it will not provide information on the death of a three year-old adopted Russian child in Texas last month.
The boy died on January 21st with bruises on several parts of his body. The mother said he was outside playing with his younger brother before she found him unresponsive. Russian authorities have blamed the boy’s death on "inhuman treatment" by the adoptive parents.
The death comes amid existing tensions between Russia and the US over child adoptions. According to the US State Department, Americans have adopted more than 60,000 Russian children since the Soviet Union collapse in 1991. The US State Department says it is working to facilitate communication between Russian officials and Texas authorities.
