BEIJING, Dec. 19 (Xinhuanet) -- Park Geun-hye is hoping to make history and become ’s first female president. But away from the headlines, what does she stand for and what is she promising the people of South Korea?

Park Geun-hye, is the candidate for the ruling conservative party, Saenuri Party.

Her nomination marks the first time that a woman has been chosen as a presidential candidate by a main political party in South Korea.

Prioritising national reconciliation, better economic democracy and social welfare are all parts of her presidential campaign.

Park has promised to boost financial aid for childcare, offer incentives for firms to hire women .

Park Geun-Hye, Saenuri Party presidential candidate, said,"In the future, when we look back and think about how our happiness came about, I think the people gathered here today will say that they were part of a historic moment."

Park is the daughter of former South Korean president Park Chung-Hee.

she draws a great deal of support from South Koreans nostalgia for Park Chung-Hee’s decisive leadership.

Park was first elected to South Korea’s National Assembly in 1998.

She sought the presidency in 2007, but her party nominated Lee Myung-bak, who went on to win the presidency in 2008.
