Security intervenes in Cairo clashes
(Xinhua)   2012-12-06 11:13:26

BEIJING, Dec. 6 (Xinhuanet) -- Protests in are turning increasingly violent. Opponents of President Mohamed have set fire to the headquarters of the Muslim Brotherhood’s political party in Is-mailia city.

It was not immediately clear if anyone had been injured in the attack. Egypt’s state-run Nile TV reports that security forces massed onto streets near the Presidential palace in northern Cairo Wednesday evening, to separate clashing supporters of the president and his opponents.

The rival sides fought with rocks, firebombs and sticks outside the palace, after thousands of Morsi supporters descended on the area where some 300 opponents were staging a sit-in. Angry protesters are pressing Morsi to rescind decrees giving him nearly unrestricted powers and to shelve a disputed draft constitution. There were no immediate reports of casualties.
