China inspects hotpot restaurants
(Xinhua)   2012-11-25 10:57:19

BEIJING, Nov. 25 (Xinhuanet) -- The tragedy in Shanxi has sounded the alarm over safety in other eateries. Firefighters in other cities have inspected their local hotpot restaurants, and found most of them using gas canisters illegally.

Firefighters make a surprise visit to a hotpot restaurant in Rugao city in eastern Jiangsu province.

Ji Fei, fire control supervisor, said, "Do you know the gas tanks cannot be put here?"

Reporter asked, "I need to move them outside?"

Ji said, "Yes. Turn them off and take them out. These pipes are seriously worn out. If the gas leaks, it will be very dangerous.

To prevent a tragedy like the one in Shanxi happening again, firefighters are carrying out inspections of hotpot restaurants. They are ordering staff to move all inflammable materials to secure places. They’re also checking firefighting equipment to ensure they are sufficient and working. Meanwhile, they’re also teaching staff how to put out fires and escape if an accident happens.
