China raises typhoon Kai-Tak alert

China's flood control authority raised its levels of emergency response, as typhoon Kai-Tak approaches the country.

China's Meteorological Administration forecasts Kai-Tak will make landfall in coastal regions of Guangdong Province at noon, or during the morning of Friday. It is expected to bring heavy rain and gales to the country's southern parts.

Chinese marine environment authorities also upgraded the alert on sea waves to the highest level for typhoon Kai-Tak. From Thursday evening to Friday, it forecasts that waves will be six to eight meters high in northern waters in the South China Sea, while waters off coastal areas in Guangdong will see waves four to six meters high.
