BEIJING, Aug. 14 (Xinhuanet) -- n rebels claimed they have captured the pilot of a fighter jet they said they shot down.

A rebel commander described himself as leader of the rebel group "The Battalion of the Grandsons of Mohammad." He claimed his fighters brought down a MIG-23 plane in the town of Mohassan in Deir el-Zour province.

However, Syrian state media reported that technical problems caused the crash, saying that a search was under way for the pilot who had ejected from the aircraft during a "regular training mission".
