Protests continue in Cairo against Mubarak verdict
CNTV, June 6, 2012

Thousands of Egyptians continue to protest in Cairo's Tahrir Square against the verdict in the trial of the former President Mubarak, his sons and senior security officials. Protesters are demanding a real trial for the former leaders.

The protest has also been fuelled by a looming presidential run-off vote between Mohamed Mursi of the Muslim Brotherhood, which already controls parliament, and Ahmed Shafiq, an ex-military man like Mubarak. Some protesters wanted a boycott of the vote while others argued with Islamists over whether or not to back Mursi. The vote is the final step before the army formally hands over to a new president by July 1st.

While protesters in the square were divided on the purpose of the demonstration, they all agreed that Shafiq should be kept out of power. Earlier, Mubarak and his former Interior Minister were given life sentences, while his sons and six other senior security officials were not convicted.
