Greece to appoint interim PM
CNTV, May 17, 2012

A senior judge will head Greece's caretaker government, until it holds new elections on June 17.

The decision was made at a meeting of party leaders, a day after power-sharing talks collapsed. Panagiotis Pikramenos, the head of Greece's Council of State will be appointed prime minister until the elections.

The caretaker government will have no mandate to take internationally binding commitments. It also has to consulate with party leaders when handling with emergencies. Polls suggest the radical left are poised to win the second election. That prospect has shaken faith in Greece's ability to remain in the eurozone and stay solvent.
