| 儿童福利院 children welfare office 为无依无靠、无人抚养的孤儿和残疾儿童提供服务的社会福利事业单位。在中国，它由国家兴办，民政部门具体管理。对收养的儿童，福利院采取统一抚养、分类分班管理的方针。对健全儿童实行养与教相结合，福利院有条件的自己开班上课，无条件的送附近学校走读。婴幼儿以保育为主，同时开展学龄前教育。对肢体残缺但智力发育健全者，实行养、治、教相结合。一方面给予康复治疗，使其能自理生活；另一方面给予职业教育和技能培训，为他们将来走向社会创造条件。对痴呆儿童，侧重训练其自理生活和从事简单劳动的能力。
