A spiral drum is a working unit of a shearer,which contacts directly with coal and rock,and takes on breaking and loading coal work.

It gives both a mathematical model designed for relation of structure parameters of a drum and relative curves of the noise and diameter as well as width of a spiral drum of a shearer found by means of computer simulation.

A mathematic model and algorithm for optimization design of cutting drum of a shearer with an aim to reduce specificenergy consumption and load fluctuation coefficient are established on the basis of simulation test and the theory and method of modern spiral cutting drum of the shearer.
