形态特征:葫芦科香瓜属一年生攀援草本植物。茎被短刚毛。卷须不分叉。叶柄长8-20厘米 叶片宽心状卵形，长宽约7-20厘米，边缘有小锯齿。雌雄同株，雄花常数朵簇生，黄色 雌花单生或簇生。果实常有刺尖瘤状凸起，矩圆状或圆柱状，种子白色，矩圆形。
生境分布:原产于印度。我国各地均有栽培。
用途:果实是常见蔬菜。茎、藤可入药，能消炎、祛痰，治痢疾和高血压等。
