性质:无色针状结晶。熔点25.3℃,沸点264.3℃,158℃(4.67kPa),120℃(1.33kPa),闪点127℃,相对密度(20/4℃)1.006(液体),(10/4℃)1.3421(固体),折射率1.5753。溶于乙醇、乙醚、氯仿、苯和环己烷,不溶于水。有香叶油和甜橙油香气。

制备方法:由氯苄与苯在铝汞齐(或无水三氯化铝,或氯化锌)催化下反应而得。先将干燥过的苯与铝汞齐加热,然后慢慢通入氯苄,回流2h,冷却加水搅拌,静置除水,余下物用5%碱液洗涤,水洗,最后减压蒸馏得成品。

用途:用作有机合成中间体,医药工业用于生产苯海拉明盐酸盐。二苯甲烷可作香叶油的代用品,适于配制皂用香精和香水等。也用于染料生产。
