在深入田野调查和文献资料分析的基础上,本文从神话传说中的水、对水的重要性的认识、宗教信仰中的水崇拜和节庆活动中的用水习俗、人生礼仪中的用水习俗等四个方面,对西双版纳傣族的水信仰、水崇拜、水知识及其相关的用水习俗进行了深入的研究与探索。

农村饮水安全工程：按照水质、水量、用水方便程度等指标衡量，目前全国尚有3亿多农村人口（中西部地区占80%）饮水未达到安全标准。2005年，国家启动了农村饮水安全应急工程，要在两年内解决2120万农村人口饮水安全问题。目前，国家发展和改革委员会正会同水利部、卫生部等有关部门抓紧编制《%26#8220;十一五%26#8221;农村饮水安全建设规划》，确保在%26#8220;十一五%26#8221;期间解决1亿农村人口饮用高氟水、高砷水、苦咸水、污染水和血吸虫病区、微生物超标等水质不达标以及局部地区严重缺水的问题。
