To solve these problems,it is necessary to improve the classroom teaching methods and means,change the role of teachers in the classroom,enrich the learner\'s language materials input and foster self-learning ability of students,thus to improve the English basic skill of the undergraduates.

In view of the problems existing in teaching college English writing,this paper analyzed the relation ship between language essential skills and writing techniques,emphasized the necessity of strengthening srudents English essential skills to improve their writing abilities.
