This paper analyzes on the necessity of constructing the subject librarian ranks,probes into the main difficulties of developing the subject librarian service in the application-oriented regular university library,and advances the idea of constructing the subject librarian ranks based on the mode of combining the professional librarians with the student librarians.

Area-application-oriented institutes,one type of higher educations,are still being explored at present in China.

With the continuous expansion of recruiting scales and the acceptance of the idea that different colleges should have different ways of development, application-oriented institutes have made reform and innovations on talent-training models and quality-oriented education.

Aim of application-oriented institutes education is to cultivate and strengthen the basis of professional education,and to focuse on skills development of students and to cultivate senior application-oriented talents,who has a broad knowledge prospect,ability,and high-quality,and can solve practical problems directly,and has the spirit of innovation,sense of responsibility.

Therefore,based on the needs to cultivate particular mode of talents,it is necessary for the applied university to develop specific ways to cultivate qualified teachers.

In this way,the requirements of application-oriented institutions must pay attention to the professional development of teachers,which refers specifi cally to the following roles:student counsellor,guider and supervisor,explorer of teaching and research,versatile innovator of knowledge and skill system,educational technology and teaching methods.
