为禾本科植物大画眉草的花。
【植物形态】
大画眉草 一年生草本，高11～78厘米。秆丛生，直立或自基部向外张开而上升，节下常有一圈腺体。叶片线形，长5～20厘米，宽3～6毫米，上面粗糙，下面无毛；叶鞘短于节间，具纵脉纹，脉上生有腺体，鞘口有柔毛；叶舌膜质，长约1毫米。圆锥花序长圆形或金字塔形，长7～20厘米，分枝粗壮，单生，小枝及小穗柄上均具有黄色腺体；小穗长4～10毫米，宽2～3毫米，暗绿色，老时色变淡，呈蓝紫色；颖片先端尖，近于相等或第一颖稍短，具脉；外稃侧脉显著，先端稍钝，内稃宿存，长约为外稃的3/4，脊具微细纤毛。颖果圆球形，径为0.5毫米左右。花果期7～10月。 生于山坡丛林下、路旁、空旷地区。分布我国东北和华北，南延至广东和西南地区。 同属植物画眉草与小画眉草亦作星星草入药。
【功用主治】
治脓疱疮(黄水疮)：星星草花朵，炒黑存性，研细，用香油调成糊状，涂患处。每日一次，连涂3～5次，皮肤即发干，逐步恢复正常。
