Based on the samples of medium and small size zooplanktons collected by the National Marine Bureau in May, August, November and February, 1981, standing for spring, summer, autumn, and winter respectively, the seasonal variation of meso small copepods (Paracalanus genus) and its dominant species in the southern Yellow Sea and East China Sea (28°-34°N and the west of 127°E) were studied.

   甲壳动物亚门桡足纲的一目。身体呈圆筒形,明显分为头胸部和腹部。头胸部显著宽大,包括头部(常和第1胸节愈合)和4~5个胸节。常有2个眼点,或全无。第5胸节和第1腹节之间有一活动关节。腹部狭小,有雌雄区别。雌性腹部分4节,雄性腹部分5节。胸足5对,大多营浮游生活,少数营底栖生活。种类很多,海洋种类即已超过1700种。有一些淡水种和半盐水种。
   该类动物是许多经济鱼类和幼鱼的基本饵料。有些种类可作为家畜和人类的食料。此外,有些种既可作为海流或水团的指示种,又可作为实验生态、生理、生化的研究对象。
