barium sulfate

   化学式BaSO4,白色晶体或粉末。熔点1580℃,密度4.50克/厘米3(15℃)。在自然界以重晶石矿物存在。硫酸钡是溶解度很小并且很重的沉淀,X射线能大量被它吸收,而且它又是一种无毒的钡盐,因此被用于X射线胃肠造影,看清胃肠的形状,医学上称硫酸钡为钡餐。硫酸钡是优质的白色颜料,俗称钡白,它遇空气中的硫化氢不会变黑,比白色颜料硫酸铅为好。重晶石还用作造纸的填料和石油钻探用泥浆。
