Advancing in Linguistic Theory in a Course Book──A Review on Xia Zhonghua's Introduction of Modern Linguistics

Based on the modern language learning theory,the National English Curriculum Standards has put emphasis on students active thinking and practice during the language learning process.

This paper aims to analyze the modern linguistics, language learning systems, the characteristics, types functions and new developmental trend of language laboratory.

The fundamental change of language research started by Saussure in the early twentieth century,which led to the establishment of modern linguistics,restricted the said research within the so-called central part of language,i.

This article discusses the vanguard novel from the traditional linguistics and the modern linguistics angle,especially its character of being not accessible.

Then,a new train of thought is put forward for modern language teaching.

Since modern Chinese can be traced back to the same origin as ancient Chinese and be interpretable to it, modern language teaching should be carried out in association with traditional linguistics.
