极重度精神发育迟滞(P rofoundm。ntalretardation)亦称“白痴，，(idiot)。患者的智商在0~19之间，是精神发育迟滞中最严重的一种。智能极低，不会说话或仅能发单音，往往不理解别人言语的意义;不能自理生活，大小便失禁，不知躲避危险;表情愚蠢，情感反应原始，不辨亲疏，饥饿或受刺激时只知道嚎叫;对周围环境不感兴趣，不会模仿，不参加游戏;动作减少，有时出现重复的无意义动作，如点头、晃动身体、爬行或奔跑;感知迟钝，有时出现自伤行为。这种患者终身需人照料。白痴患者的身体发育不良，常伴有先天畸形、癫痈、神经系统障碍等，对感染和疾病抵抗力低卜，常合并躯体疾患而天折。 (赵亚忠撰刘协和审)
