北大西洋的西风漂流。墨西哥湾暖流的延续。在盛行西风下,横过大西洋北部。在北纬40°附近分为两支,南支向南流,称加那利寒流;北支向东北流,至北纬60°附近再分为两支,一支偏向西北,最后成为西格陵兰暖流,另一支继续向东北流,伸入北冰洋。
