肉桂 Cinnamomum cassia 樟科樟属的一种。原产中国,福建、广东、广西、云南等省区有栽培,其中尤以广西为多。常绿乔木。有特殊的香气。叶互生或近对生,长圆形至近披针形,上面亮绿色,无毛,下面苍白色,密被细微柔毛,叶柄粗壮,密被微柔毛。圆锥花序腋生或近顶生,具总梗,三级分枝,分枝末端为3花的聚伞花序。花白色,花被两面密被毛;能育雄蕊9,排成3轮,花药4室,退化雄蕊3,位于最内轮。子房近球形,果椭圆形,成熟时紫黑色;果托浅杯状,边缘有浅齿。肉桂的枝、叶、果实、花梗可提炼桂油,桂油为合成桂皮酸等重要香料及化妆品的原料,亦供巧克力及香烟配料,药用作矫臭剂、驱风剂、刺激性芳香剂等,并有防腐作用。
