The damage causes of expansion device of Qijiazhuang Bridge on Jing-Zhang Expressway are analyzed, and the considerable problems in calculating expansion space are presented in this paper.

Combined with the practice,the paper introduced the structure and usage of large displacement expansion device,proposed the choice suggestion and improved plan for reference.

The paper introduces the application of high-performance concrete in the paving of bridge beam and joint device, such as steel fibre concrete or polymer fibre concrete, the mixture ratio design, main construction technique and control keys.

Regarding to the joint device erection for highway bridge (Type CQG-C), only after the suitable work following the procedures required by the Engineer and the serious inspection at each stage, the quality could be ensured and the service life could become longer.
