法国国王。出生于法国的科尼亚克，死于朗布依埃。1529～1530年,下令举办"皇家讲座",讲授希腊文、拉丁文、希伯莱文，研究哲学、数学、医学、地理，为法兰西学院奠定了基础。他提倡印刷业，资助挚友R.艾斯蒂安创办印刷所，后又令该所每出一种书籍，即送一册样本给皇家图书馆。从而使皇家图书馆成为外国历史上第 1家版本图书馆。1539年下令严禁印刷商采用容易混淆的牌号、标志。在位期间，法国印刷出版业进入繁荣时期。
