位于河北保定市区中心，始建于明洪武年间，永乐年间为大宁都司署，占地约2万平方米，以甬道及五进大堂正中为中轴线，两侧建筑相互对称，甬道两旁，古柏参天，意境深邃，气氛庄重。直隶总督署是我国保留较完整的规模较大的省级衙署，这种标准的古代衙署建筑群，北京及其它省，均已无存。
直隶总督署位于古城保定市繁华地段，是清朝直隶省的最高军政长官的办公处所，是我国唯一保存最为完整的一座省级衙署，具有浓郁的时代风采和丰富的历史内涵。1988年1月，国务院核准公布为全国重点文物保护单位。
