| 豚鼠 Cayiidae；guinea pigs 啮齿目豚鼠科的通称。因肥笨且叫声像猪而得名。 豚鼠体型短圆，头大，眼大而圆，耳圆；四肢短，前脚具4趾，后脚3趾，无外尾。人工培育许多品种，除安哥拉豚鼠被长毛外，体毛皆短，有光泽。有黑、白、褐等单色的，也有具各色斑纹的。 豚鼠科共5属15种，为南美洲特产。栖息于岩石坡、草地、林缘和沼泽。穴居，集成5～10只的小群，夜间寻食，主要吃植物的绿色部分。终年繁殖，每胎生2～3仔。
