| 鲎 horseshoe crab 大形海洋节肢动物肢口纲剑尾目动物的通称。古生代泥盆纪极盛，现仅存3属4种。 头胸部背面为大而穹圆的马蹄形头胸甲，前缘宽圆（雄性中国鲎前缘左右凹下），后缘向后呈三角形突出。背面有两条纵沟，6条纵脊，另有1对不带柄的复眼和小的中央单眼。腹部体节愈合，背面观向后趋窄。体末为粗硬的剑尾，其末端尖，有棱脊或圆柱形。头胸部口周围有6对附肢。
鲎掘穴产卵于沙滩上，受精卵孵化为三叶幼体。寿命长达十多年之久。成体爬行于潮间带或浅海沙底，喜潜沙内，也能游泳。鲎捕食小型底栖动物或有机碎屑。 鲎肉、生殖腺和卵可食，头胸甲可作水杓。血液内含铜，食用过量会中毒。鲎的血液可制检测细菌内毒素的试剂。 |
