技巧运动的一种。因为过去这项运动是在垫子上做的，故名垫上运动。20世纪50年代以前，垫上运动的动作比较简单，主要是滚动、滚翻、屈伸起、手翻、倒立、空翻以及初级的双人动作等。现在已发展到由3人或4人做的具有高难度的造型动作。场地器材也有了很大变化，由垫子发展到专门的比赛板或12米×12米的地毯。由于这项运动的内容已大大超出过去"垫上"的范围，于是"垫上运动"这个名称已逐渐被"技巧运动"所代替。
