This paper, based on re-examination of the conception and the classification of discourse cohesion, studies the presentation forms of structural cohesion (mainly embodied in the substitution of nouns, verbs, clauses and their omissions, and in similar structures) in English discourse and how these forms are translated (or converted) into Chinese.

This paper mainly concerns about three ways of cohesion:structural cohesion,logical cohesion and lexical cohesion,with the purpose of stressing the importance and feasibility of the application of cohesion theories in college English teaching.

In translating, the awareness of the structural cohesion is conductive to realize the textual cohesion and to approach the functional consistency between the original discourse and translated version.
