性质: 又称缓冲指数(buffer index)。指缓冲溶液缓冲效能的大小。用缓冲容量(β)作为量度。β的定义式为:β=db/dpH=-da/dpH。其物理意义是使1L溶液pH值增加dpH单位时所需强碱db mol;使1L溶液pH降低dpH单位时所需强酸da mol。显然,β值越大,溶液的缓冲能力也越强。缓冲容量的大小与共轭酸碱对的浓度和其比值有关,当cHB/CB-=1,其pH=pKa时,缓冲容量最大。一般缓冲溶液的缓冲范围在pH=pKa±1之内。
