神经元的另一类突起，每个神经元只有一条，一般较细长，分支较少，具有将神经冲动由胞体传向末梢的功能。轴突起始部呈圆锥状，称轴丘。轴突的长短因细胞种类不同，而有很大差别，短的仅数微米，长的可达一米以上。
