| 西北 中国地区名。一般指西北部3省2区所在的区域，包括陕西省、甘肃省、青海省和宁夏回族自治区、新疆维吾尔自治区。1950～1954年曾为一级行政区域。地形为高山与盆地相间分布。属大陆性荒漠气候特征。面积300.72万平方千米。1990年人口8013.34万。地广人稀，民族众多，有维吾尔、藏、回、哈萨克等少数民族。该区能源、矿产较丰富 ，水力、煤炭发展潜力大。有条件发展粮食基地、牧业基地 、有色金属基地及石油化工基地。 中国的西部地区（包括西北与西南）的发展在全国有重大战略意义：没有西部地区的繁荣昌盛，就不可能实现中国的繁荣富强；没有西部的社会稳定和民族团结，就不可能保持整个国家的社会稳定和民族团结；没有西部的全面振兴 ，就不可能达到整个中华民族的振兴；没有西部地区的现代化，就不可能有整个社会主义现代化的最终成功。西部地区的经济发展，一要依靠西部地区广大干部和群众的自力更生、艰苦奋斗，要依靠国家的大力扶持，三要其他地区，特别是 ，比较发达地区的多方支援。 |
