On the basis of former theories,a compatible elliptical model with a common evolution characteristics related to fault length,fault displacement and fault surface geometry was presumed, the spatial deformation of faults were analyzed,and the development of different kind of faults and their control capacity of oil and gas reservoir were indicated.

Tectonic stress field is here extended to cover,in addition,crustal defromation field, fault displacement field,deep crustal structures,as well as the factors that may have some influence on the stress field such as structural conditions,geophysical and geochemical conditions and properties of the crustal materials.
