又称“冰被”、“大陆冰盖”。表面大致平缓、中部略厚，呈盾形，规模比山岳冰川大。主要分布于南极大陆和格棱兰岛。南极大陆几乎全部为大陆冰川覆盖，格棱兰岛约90%为大陆冰川覆盖。
