Mola mola;mola

    鲀形目翻车鲀科翻车鲀属的唯一种。体长可达3~5.5米,体重达1500千克以上,体短,卵圆形,很侧扁,幼鱼为圆形,体长约为体高的1.4 倍。尾部很短,无尾柄。头稍短小,吻部钝圆。眼小,侧位,稍高。口很小,端位。上下颌牙各愈合成一大板状牙,中央无齿缝,鳃孔小。无鳞,但体及鳍上均粗糙,有刺状或粒状突起,似革状。无侧线。背鳍1个,呈镰刀状,臀鳍与背鳍相对,同形;无腹鳍,胸鳍短小,圆形;尾鳍很宽短,边缘波曲。背侧灰褐色,两侧为银白色,腹侧为白色;各鳍亦为灰褐色。多栖息于热带和亚热带的海洋中,也见于温带甚至寒带。游泳很快。杂食性,以海藻、软体动物、小鱼、水母及浮游甲壳类等为食。发育有变态现象。在中国见于台湾到广东、广西及海南。
