动物形态：体形似家鸭，体长48厘米。雌雄异色，雄鸭头颈呈金属绿色，颈下部具不完整的白色环纹，背黑色，两翼暗褐色，并具鲜明的紫蓝色翼镜，胸紫栗色，下体灰白，有灰褐色小斑，中央尾羽黑色并显蓝色光辉，羽端向上卷曲，尾下复羽绒黑色。雌鸭较小，上体及两翼黑褐色并具棕黄色的羽缘或横斑，下体棕黄，黑褐部分成斑点，中央尾羽末端不向上卷。 生态分布：水鸭为冬候鸟，我国南部平原湖沼及河川地区为其迁居地点。 药用部分：鸭掌、咀壳、鸭肉、鸭毛均入药。 用途：水鸭毛性味咸、平，无毒。能解毒退火，可治汤火灼伤。脚掌及咀、壳治妇人月后寒。
