    中国西北干旱地区用砂石覆盖土壤表层以蓄水保墒,提高土温的免耕农田。分布在甘肃、青海一带。其作用砂石覆盖,能渗纳雨水,减少蒸发,提高土壤蓄水保墒能力和含水量;既能增温促进作物早出苗和生长发育,又可提高昼夜温差,利于提高作物产量和品质;防止土壤的风蚀和水蚀,减轻盐碱、病虫和杂草为害。其类型按使用年限分为新砂田、中砂田和老砂田;按有无灌溉条件分为水砂田和旱砂田;按砂石状况分为卵石砂田、绵砂砂田和破石砂田。长期种植作物后,砂、土逐渐混合,丧失砂田效果,称砂田老化。营造砂田宜选平坦的土地,坡地的坡度应小于15度。荒地先经平地后再盖砂石,厚度约10厘米。熟地先耕翻晒垡,施足基肥,平整后盖砂石。禾谷类作物用砂田播种耧将种子播入砂石层下的土壤表面;瓜、菜类作物应挖穴扒开砂石点种后再覆盖。砂田作物收获时拔除秸秆,不留残茬,没有一般免耕农田因残茬覆盖而产生有毒物质,降低地温和病虫害增加等弊病。
